Modern Slavery

Security Plus + Limited is a national organisation in the security/cash in transit sector, and employs between 800-900 people UK wide. To find out more about the nature of our business, please click www.secplus.co.uk

In order to deliver cash in transit and security services, we work with a range of suppliers. Suppliers should commit to continuous improvement towards compliance with the labour and environmental standards specified, both in their own companies and those of their suppliers.

SUPPLY CHAIN & SUPPLIER CODE OF CONDUCT

On-going Suppliers

For purchases which have been made before and where a contract has been set up, then that supplier will be used again. All contracts are held in the Purchase Ledger Department. These suppliers are selected based on good historical performance.

New Suppliers

Where a new supplier is required, a selection of quotes will be obtained and the supplier best suited to the requirements of Security Plus + Limited will be selected. For each new supplier selected a file will be created, which will contain any correspondence (other than invoices, delivery notes etc.) and a copy of the contract (where applicable).

Supplier Evaluation

Where goods supplied do not meet the standard expected then the Purchase Ledger Department will receive a copy of the Supplier Evaluation Form. Depending on the seriousness of the faulty goods, either the Finance Director or any other relevant Manager will contact the supplier to ascertain the reasons and any form of recompense.

The evaluation form will be retained in the supplier’s file and the performance of the supplier will be continually reviewed. Where it is deemed that the supplier is not providing the service required by Security Plus + Limited then a new supplier will be sought, as above.

OPERATIONS AND COMPANY POLICIES

As part of our commitment to combating modern slavery, we have implemented the following policies:

Labour Standards

Security Plus + Limited has adopted the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code outlined below for labour standards in this Code of Conduct. The ETI is an alliance of companies, non-governmental organisations and trade unions committed to working together to identify and promote good practice in the implementation of Codes of labour practice, which are based on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions. Please see www.ethicaltrade.org

Employment is freely chosen:

  • There is no forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour.
  • Workers are not required to lodge ‘deposits’ or their identity papers with the employer and are free to leave their employer after reasonable notice.

Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected:

  • Workers, without distinction, have the right to join or form trade unions of their own choosing and to bargain collectively.
  • The employer adopts an open attitude towards the legitimate activities of trade unions.
  • Workers’ representatives are not discriminated against and have access to carry out their representative functions in the workplace.
  • Where the right to freedom of association and collective bargaining is restricted under law, the employer facilitates, and does not hinder, the development of parallel means for independent and free association and bargaining.

Work conditions are safe and hygienic:

  • A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided, bearing in mind the prevailing knowledge of the industry and of any specific hazards. Adequate steps shall be taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work, by minimising, so far as is reasonably practicable, the causes of hazards inherent in the working environment.
  • Workers shall receive regular and recorded health & safety training, and such training shall be repeated for new or reassigned workers
  • Access to clean toilet facilities and water, and, if appropriate, suitable facilities for food storage shall be provided.
  • Accommodation, where provided, shall be clean, safe and meet the basic needs of the workers.
  • The company observing the standards shall assign responsibility for health & safety to a senior management representative.

Child Labour shall not be used:

  • There shall be no recruitment of child labour.
  • Companies shall develop or participate in and contribute to policies and programmes, which provide for the transition of any child found to be performing child labour to enable her/him to attend and remain in quality education until no longer a child.
  • Children and young people under 18 years of age shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions
  • These policies and procedures shall conform to the provisions of the relevant International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards.

Living wages are paid:

  • Wages and benefits paid for a standard working week meet, at a minimum, national legal standards or industry benchmarks, whichever is higher. In any event wages should always be high enough to meet basic needs and to provide some discretionary income.
  • All workers shall be provided with written and understandable information about their employment conditions in respect to wages before they enter employment, and about the particulars of their wages for the pay period concerned each time they are paid.
  • Deductions from wages as a disciplinary measure shall not be permitted without the express and informed permission of the worker concerned. All disciplinary measures should be recorded.

Working hours are not excessive:

  • Working hours comply with national laws and benchmark industry standards, whichever affords a greater protection
  • In any event, workers shall not on a regular basis be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week and shall be provided with at least one day off for every 7 day period on average.

No discrimination is practised:

  • There is no discrimination in hiring, compensation, access to training, promotion, termination or retirement based on race, national origin, religion, age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation.

Regular employment is provided:

  • To every extent possible work performed must be on the basis of a recognised employment relationship established through national law and practice

No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed:

  • Physical abuse or discipline, the threat of physical abuse, sexual or other harassment and verbal abuse or other forms of intimidation shall be prohibited.

We also make sure our suppliers are aware of our policies, and adhere to the same high standards.

These policies have been developed by Security Plus + Limited in accordance with our own internal standards and procedures.

As part of our efforts to monitor and reduce the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring within our supply chains, we have adopted the following due diligence procedures; internal audits undertaken by our own appointed employees; external audits carried out by ACS & NSI (Security industry authority approved contractor scheme auditors and National Security Inspectorate) both of which scrutinise the quality standards and procedures throughout the organisation including all aspects of recruitment, employment, quality processes and conformance with procedures and legal requirements.

Our procedures are designed to:

  • establish and assess areas of potential risk in our business and supply chains
  • monitor potential risk areas in our business and supply chains
  • reduce the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our business and supply chains
  • provide adequate protection for whistle-blowers.

We enforce a strict code of compliance and do not tolerate slavery and human trafficking within our supply chains, should we find evidence of a failure to comply with our policies we would immediately seek to terminate our relationship with the relevant supplier.

This statement is made in accordance with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes Security Plus + Limited’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year commencing 1st January 2018 and ending 31st December 2018.

This statement was approved by the Board of Security Plus + Limited on 19th February 2018.
