Great Glen Way Blog - Day One

Each day, Tony is updating us with information on the days events, via his mobile.

Finally the day has arrived, our excitement and expectations are high! So much so that we have seen every hour pass since 02.30 this morning! After some much needed Carb loading last night (beer) our energy levels are at a peak!!

Morning
Breakfast at 8am then heading for the start at 9.15!

12:37
21 miles in and absolutely knackered! Going well although Dave has a poorly knee! Bless!

End of Day One
Just finished the first day, totalling 35 miles in a time of 5 hours including the stops! We are sitting in the bar with a well earned pint! We've just been discussing what the hardest part of the day was and we couldn't really decide so we've put them in this order:

1. Getting up this morning.
2. The hills. You think you've broken the back of it, then you turn the corner and continue to climb, it's soul destroying!
3. The Wind (not flatulence!!)

Anyway, early to bed!! (someones got to tell Dean yet!)

All in all an extremely demanding day both physically and mentally, but extremely rewarding!

Tony & Dave

P.S. If anyone is coming to the area of Loch Ness, just call at the Glenmoriston Arms Hotel. The landlord and landlady couldn't do enough to help!
